About the ADL

The North Carolina AHEC Digital Library (ADL) is an online service of the North Carolina AHEC Program serving North Carolina healthcare professionals with a focus on clinical care and continuing education. The ADL provides access to current medical literature and other quality health information resources through electronic full-text journals, books and databases. Links to carefully evaluated clinical and educational tools are arranged by health topic and through alphabetic links. Certain licensed resources (many of the full-text journals, books and databases) are available only to ADL members. Membership information is available from your local AHEC Library or from the ADL Membership page.

The ADL is developed and maintained in the NC AHEC Information & Library System Office at the Health Sciences Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill under the guidance of the AHEC Information and Library System. Partners in the ADL include: the nine regional AHEC libraries across North Carolina; the health sciences libraries at UNC Chapel Hill, Duke University, East Carolina University, and Wake Forest University; and a consortium of approximately 30 NC hospitals.

The ADL was initially launched in 2000 with the support of a grant from the Duke Endowment. Today the library is supported by the NC AHEC Program and membership fees.
